From playing the role of Mia Thermopolis to enchanting the audience with her incredible portrayal of Catwoman, the actress has worked super hard to sustain her position in the industry.
In 2016, the actress starred in the science fiction black comedy Colossal apposite Jason Sudeikis. Nevertheless, the movie director Nacho Vigalondo once revealed that the Ella Enchanted star was not pleased with the end conclusion of the flick and suggested changing the entire climax scene.
Anne Hathaway Asked the Director to Change the Ending of the Film
Many actors often suggest their ideas to the directors to change the dialogue of their film or any complex scenes they might feel need improvising. Anne Hathaway also did the same thing when she called her 2016 Colossal film director Nacho Vigalondo to urge him to alter the ending of the project.
The filmmaker told Screen Rant that the actress suggested a significant change to the climax so that Oscar’s (played by Jason Sudeikis) death would seem faultlessly justified. Vigalondo said that at first, Gloria (played by Hathaway) “threw him away in a more dry way,” but the actress was having a hard time with this scene, so before they filmed the sequence, she phoned him to say that she wanted a more justified ending.
“Two days before shooting the scene, Anne Hathaway called me, she was all of a sudden worried about the scene. She was like, ‘Okay. Can we make the movie in a way that she doesn’t kill him?’ Because it’s capital punishment,” he recalled.
The director continued,
“And I was like, ‘Okay, once we meet that level of destruction when she’s holding him? The movie is at its basics. There’s no blood. There’s no dialogue. It’s just this pure thing, a pure elemental scene happening in Showdown. It’s like the end of a spaghetti Western. You’ve reached a peak level of destruction. And after that? You can’t go back to the plot.’”
“Anne Hathaway was totally right when she said, ‘If I execute this guy, in this cold way, we’re going to lose the empathy towards the character. Because she’s not like that. At that point in the shooting, I learned that if Anne Hathaway is texting me, she’s right!’”
Nacho Vigalondo admitted that the actress suggested changing the conclusion, and he diligently listened to her advice claiming that she has more experience in the industry than him, so he made the right decision to make the necessary changes Anne Hathaway proposed to him.
