Angelina Jolie Shocks With Very Personal Admission: ‘I Feel A Bit Down’

Angelina Jolie has given a candid insight into her state of mind, saying she hasn’t felt “like herself” for a decade.

Speaking to Vogue about her new fashion line, Atelier Jolie, the actress said she was “still understanding who I am at 48”.

“I guess I’m in transition as a person,” she said.

“I feel a bit down these days.

“I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into.”

Jolie and her former husband Brad Pitt, 59, famously announced they were divorcing in 2016, after 12 years together.

In the aftermath, Jolie started doing fewer films, only taking on jobs that didn’t require long shoots.

“We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing,” the star said, without going into specifics.

The Oscar winner said it was important for her to “work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself”.

“I’m hoping to change many aspects of my life,” she added.

Jolie said she would have gone down a “much darker” path in recent years if it hadn’t been for her children.

“I was 26 when I became a mother,” she said, referring to the adoption of her oldest child Maddox.

“My entire life changed. Having children saved me – and taught me to be in this world differently.

“I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them.

“They’re better than me, because you want your children to be.”

Jolie and Pitt share six children – Maddox, 22, Pax, 19, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

Their split was acrimonious, with the pair allegedly involved in a physical alteration on a private flight with their children present.

No charges were ever laid over the alleged incident.

But the couple’s divorce proceedings played out in the world’s tabloids as well as in court, as they battled it out over custody of their children.

Pitt continues to make successful movies – most recently, Babylon and Bullet Train – while Jolie appears to want to focus her energies on her fashion line and creative space, Atelier Jolie.

She said she was learning how to dress in a “softer” way, after years of using fashion as a kind of protective armour.

“Sometimes the way you dress says, ‘Don’t mess with me – I’ve got my armour on’,” she told Vogue.

“But I want a woman to feel safe enough that she can be soft.”

Jolie also opened up on how the clothes we wear can say something about our moods and emotions.

“After I went through something where I was hurt, I had a therapist ask if I would try wearing a flowing garment,” she revealed.

“‘Sounds silly, but I assumed that pants and boots projected a ‘tougher’ look, a stronger me.

“Was I strong enough to be soft?

“At the time, no.

“I felt vulnerable.”
