Vin Diesel Teases New Fast & Furious 10 Cast Details

Vin Diesel reveals that Fast & Furious 10 will start principal photography soon, and teases some "really exciting" new cast additions to the project.

Vin Diesel has teased some brand new cast members appearing in Fast & Furious 10. After Fast & Furious 9, the Fast saga’s main storyline is down to its final chapter, starting with the franchise’s 10th main installment. Set to release in 2023, Fast & Furious 10 is set to begin production soon, with Fast 11 reportedly being filmed soon after, as director Justin Lin confirmed the projects’ back-to-back production last year.

Since debuting in 2001 with Rob Cohen’s original The Fast and the Furious, the franchise has outgrown its street racing roots and become a mega-budget action-adventure fare. Inspired by Marvel Studios’ approach to the ending of the Infinity Saga split across Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Fast & Furious 10 is set to be the first half of Dominic Toretto and his crew’s final adventure. Fast 10 will be followed by Fast 11 to cap it all off, as the two films will each serve as a “chapter” of the same story. Lin is set to return to helm both films, and while plot details are still scant at the moment, Charlize Theron’s Viper is expected to be Fast 10 and 11’s overall bad guy. Recently, Game of Thrones and Dune star Jason Momoa joined the Fast & Furious franchise for Fast 10 in an unknown role, and more casting announcements are now expected to come soon.

In a new video posted on his official Instagram account, Diesel offered fans an update about Fast & Furious 10. The star shared that principal photography on the film is kicking off very soon, saying it was just “minutes away.” Diesel added that Fast 10 has “great cast additions that’s gonna make this episode really, really, really exciting,” but didn’t go so far as to mention any names. Amid any upcoming casting news for Fast & Furious 10, one actor that fans can already rule out is Dwayne Johnson. Despite Diesel’s public request for the former pro-wrestler to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs, The Rock has already made it clear that he is not coming back to the main Fast & Furious franchise given the actors’ off-screen feud. So far, there is no word on when a potential Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw 2 might be on the cards, but the sequel is fans’ best shot at seeing Johnson in his Fast role again. Nonetheless, there’s no scarcity of actors who want to be involved in the Fast & Furious film series, especially given how popular and financially successful it has become in the last decade. But more than new characters, long-time followers of the franchise will be excited to potentially see some familiar faces rejoin “la familia’s” next mission in Fast 10, with the surprise return of Sung Kang’s Han in F9 setting a precedent for this.

It’s interesting to wonder who else might be boarding the Fast saga via Fast & Furious 10. Assuming that the franchise is set to bring back the main cast of F9, the upcoming film will already be star-studded as it is, so bringing in even more new actors in addition to Momoa will certainly make for a jam-packed ensemble. It’s possible that the studio will risk overstuffing the blockbuster with new characters, leaving the franchise’s core cast with less screen time for their final outings. How Lin and his crew pull all this off will be revealed when Fast & Furious 10 releases next year.
