‘Walking Dead’ Star Norman Reedus & Jim Henson Co. Developing New Fantasy Series
The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus is trading in zombies for a new set of creatures as he’s set to collaborate with the Jim Henson Company on a new live-action fantasy series.
According to Variety, Reedus is teaming up with Brian and Wendy Froud (The Dark Crystal) on the upcoming prime-time adventure series. Intended for a family audience, the show is expected to feature a brand new universe of creatures and characters created by the Frouds.
“Norman Reedus, the Frouds, and the Jim Henson Company coming together to create a show is the mashup of my dreams,” the Jim Henson Company’s President of TV, Halle Stanford, told Variety. “Norman is an artist, and when I suggested to him, what if we create a series with the Frouds together that explores his love of magical creatures, he was so excited.”
While best known for his portrayal of Daryl Dixon in the hit AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead, Reedus is also a painter, sculptor, and photographer. His work has featured in galleries in New York, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Frankfurt. In 2013, he published a book of photography titled The Sun’s Coming Up… Like a Big Bald Head.
“[The Henson Company] are masters in the fantasy world-building space,” Reedus stated. “I mean, a show about goblins, trolls and otherworldly creatures? There’s nobody in the universe better suited for that than the Henson Company.”
Brian and Wendy Froud are artists, sculptors, puppet-makers, and writers, who have been working in the film and television industry for decades. They are recognized for creating the creatures in the Jim Henson films Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. Wendy is also famous for bringing Yoda to life for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
