The Walking Dead Hints At How Negan Returns In Season 11

The promo for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 13 provides a big clue as to how Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan will come back into the picture.

The Walking Dead has provided a clue as to how Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will re-enter the picture in season 11. To prevent Maggie (Lauren Cohan) from making an attempt on his life, Negan headed off on his own in The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 premiere and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. However, his importance to the show and the franchise’s future makes his return to the series inevitable.

For now, Negan has no apparent connection to the Commonwealth story, especially since he left before Lance Hornsby’s soldiers showed up at Alexandria’s doorstep. But, it was always assumed that even though Negan has cut his ties to the main characters, circumstances will bring them together again before the show ends. After all, Morgan’s character is confirmed to co-lead a Walking Dead spinoff that will release after the conclusion of the main show. Alongside Maggie, Negan will travel to New York City In a six-episode series titled Isle of the Dead.

How Negan gets drawn back into their lives may be linked to the story for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 13, titled “Warlords”. In the promo for the episode, Aaron (Ross Marquand) mentioned a new group near the western border that they plan to make contact with in the interest of offering them help. If Negan is with them, that would provide an explanation for how their paths cross again. If Negan has new allies and they get dragged into a conflict with the Commonwealth, he could get roped into season 11’s main story along with everyone else.

The promo supports the idea that Negan has found a new group through a tease from Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari). While talking with other characters, Elijah mentioned that “someone we know must have sent him”. He could mean that a familiar face sent a member of this new community to the Hilltop. Since The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 trailer showed Negan in the company of a new female character, it’s entirely plausible that he’s the one Elijah is referring to in the promo. As for how he could have developed ties to these mystery characters, this new group may have taken Negan in after episode 9’s ending. For him, they can be an opportunity to build a future without his past getting in the way.

The proximity of Commonwealth could force Negan to involve himself once again in the affairs of the show’s main characters, particularly if they try to bring in his group. He may not be an ally to the Hilltop or Alexandria anymore, but what happens in the episodes to come could result in Negan and Maggie sharing a common goal (or enemy) in The Walking Dead season 11 part 2. If so, Negan may stick around not because of Alexandria, but because of his loyalty to the show’s newest community.
