Disney’s Snow White: Gal Gadot Shares Image From Last Day As Evil Queen

Gal Gadot, star of Disney's upcoming live-action Snow White, shares a new BTS image updating fans on the status of filming in London.

In a new update, Gal Gadot has shared a behind the scenes image announcing her final day on set of Disney’s upcoming live-action reimagining of Snow White. The classic Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in 1938 and stood as the Mouse House’s very first animated movie. It kicked off Disney’s tactic in picking up several fairytale properties and transforming them into family-friendly cartoons, such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland. This put Disney on the map in a timeless way that has helped the studio become an intergenerational juggernaut known for its princesses and musicals.

The live-action Snow White stars Rachel Zegler, the breakout star of last year’s Steven Spielberg-directed West Side Story, as the titular princess opposite Gadot as the Evil Queen. Andrew Burnap also stars as the male lead, though his exact role remains under wraps. Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) directs a script written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. Filming began in March, though the production experienced a delay after the U.K. set caught fire. While most details about the updated Snow White have been kept tight to Disney’s vest, a new announcement from Gadot herself has provided a glimmer of insight for fans.

In a recent social media post (via Collider), Gadot debuted an image of herself in what appears to be a makeup trailer, although donning a casual get-up. Several female crew members stand behind her wearing Evil Queen-inspired t-shirts. The caption reads, “Last day on Snow White with the best team ever!!!” This is a major update regarding Snow White‘s status, as it’s clear Gadot has wrapped up her part. See the screen capture below:

Snow White is a fairytale that has enjoyed a number of adaptations over the years, and Disney’s live-action edition will, in a way, bring everything full circle. It’s been said that the new Snow White will be a reimagining of the original film, as evidenced by the fact that Gadot is expected to dance and sing. Disney’s Snow White will feature new songs from La La Land duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and the change in the male lead indicates there are a lot of unique twists ahead. For her part, Gadot seems excited to be a part of this new fairytale, and there’s much interest in seeing how her Evil Queen will be depicted.

While the release date for the new Snow White is yet to be announced, it is expected to hit theatres in 2023. With Gadot officially wrapping, it could be that the rest of production can’t be far behind. Or, it could also be that Gadot doesn’t have a very large role in Snow White. That alone raises some intrigue. Perhaps most interesting is the crew assembled for this project, with Webb and Gerwig coming from very different tonal backgrounds. It will be interesting to see how the tone of Snow White shakes out, as fans will be eagerly awaiting official footage in the coming months.
