Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s engagement has certainly rattled the internet. Fans were thrilled about the announcement that came three months after the engagement of the pair’s twin couple, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. Netizens have deemed it the “rockstar couples era.” The trend has also reached Kardashian’s 21-year-old bestie, TikTok star Addison Rae who’s currently dating Israeli guitarist and songwriter Omer Fedi.
But in light of Fox and MGK recently “drinking each other’s blood,” fans felt it was necessary to credit the OG rocker couple, Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton. Even Thornton’s son said the newly engaged couple are “copycats” of his dad. Here’s why.
Megan Fox & MGK ‘Copied’ Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton’s ‘Blood Love’
Fox announced her engagement to MGK by posting a video of the proposal along with a caption that spilled some details about the magical moment. “In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree,” the actress wrote on Instagram. “We asked for magic. We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time. Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma.” Of course, Fox didn’t hold back on the twin flame tales.
Times must be tough for @MachineGunKA He had to propose to Megan Fox after his shift at @footlocker 😂😂

“Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him,” she continued. “And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes. …and then we drank each other’s blood.” You’d think fans would have been outraged by the blood-drinking. But instead, they were outraged that they were “copying” Jolie and Thornton’s “blood love.” They even went on to label Fox and MGK as “knockoffs” of the wild ex-couple.
In 2000, Jolie and Thornton wore vials of each other’s blood around their necks while exchanging vows in Las Vegas. The Maleficent star wore a casual pair of jeans, a tank top, and boots. They eloped while the Sling Blade actor was still engaged to Laura Dern. Crazy, right? Before Jolie and Thornton divorced in 2003, they also made headlines for their passionate public display of affection. One of their most iconic moments was on the premiere of Jolie’s 2000 film, Gone in 60 Seconds. There, while the actress drowned Thornton in kisses and bites, he told MTV that they had sex in the car on the way to the event.
Naturally, fans took to Twitter to slam Fox and MGK’s attempt at being “the next Angelina and Billy Bob.” A fan tweeted: “Megan and MGK want what Billy Bob and Angelina had but unfortunately they just ain’t got that juice. Sorry to them.” Another fan said it’s because “you can’t just force creepy weirdness it needs to be a natural thing.” Meanwhile, there are those who think such bizarre antics shouldn’t be a thing in the first place. “People keep saying [Megan] Fox and MGK are the 2020s version of Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton and I see it,” tweeted a fan. “Both couples have succeeded in making literally everyone uncomfortable.”
Billy Bob Thornton’s Son: MGK & Megan Fox Are ‘Copycats’ Of His Dad & Angelina Jolie
Thornton’s son Harry, himself agrees that Fox and MGK are “copycats” of his dad and ex-stepmom. Talking to Page Six, the Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules star reacted to the young couple, saying, “Ah, they’re copycats.” He doesn’t hate them, though. He actually thinks it’s interesting to see the couple pay homage to his dad’s past romance with the Marvel Cinematic Universe actress. He also shared his memories of his dad wearing a vial of Jolie’s blood around his neck. “I just thought it was a necklace,” said the young Thornton. “Now … I think it’s gross to have someone’s DNA wrapped around your neck all day. It’s definitely interesting.
The reality star added that he appreciates his dad’s trendsetting impact. “He’s set trends,” he said. “I think that’s awesome. I can appreciate that.” When asked about his dad’s thoughts on him entering reality TV and trading his comfortable life for ranch life with other celebrity kids, he revealed that the actor supports him all the way. “My dad told me, ‘You’re going to be on TV, so be careful and don’t do anything too embarrassing,’” said the famous offspring. “But he told me to also have fun and let me know that he was really excited for me.”
