After Gal Gadot refused to shoot a certain scene with Justice League’s Ezra Miller, director Joss Whedon brought in a double to film the scene. Directors and actors use body doubles for many situations. Sometimes the actors refuse to film a scene the director believes is important to the film. This happened on the set of Justice League, when Gal Gadot reportedly refused to film a scene with her co-star, Ezra Miller.
Because Gadot refused to film the scene, Whedon used a body-double for the scene. Apparently this, as well as some other things, didn’t go over well with the cast. It seems Gadot had a certain reason for not wanting to film the scene. However, Joss Whedon brought in a double to film a scene with Miller’s character, The Flash, because Gadot refused to shoot the scene.
Why Did Gal Gadot Refuse To Shoot The Scene?
After a family tragedy resulted in Zack Snyder needing to leave the set of Justice League, Joss Whedon was brought in to finish shooting the movie. It seems bringing in the new director didn’t go as smoothly as it could have. While filming Joss Whedon’s Justice League, Gal Gadot refused to film a certain scene.
The scene includes her character Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller’s character, The Flash. The scene she refused to film has The Flash fall and land on Wonder Woman comically, with his hands on her chest. It seems Gadot felt the scene was unnecessary and sexualized her character.
Supposedly, Whedon thought the scene was hilarious and refused to take it out. As a result, Whedon brought in a body-double to film the scene. If this is true, it means instead of listening to an actor who’s played and worked on a powerful female character (one that many care about), Whedon instead chose comic relief at the expense of that character’s looks.
According to WION, another of Gadot’s co-stars, Ray Fisher, spoke out about Whedon’s behavior on the set of Justice League. According to Fisher, who plays Cyborg, Whedon’s behavior was “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable.”
Reportedly, the Wonder Woman star wasn’t very happy with Whedon’s behavior either. Gadot’s refusal to film the scene seems to say everything about how the Death On The Nile actress felt about the scene.
Did Joss Whedon Threaten Gal Gadot’s Career?
Reportedly, director Joss Whedon even threatened Gal Gadot’s career, possibly because she refused to appear in the scene. Whedon claimed this was a misunderstanding, partly blaming it on the fact that English isn’t the Fast Five actress’ first language.
Apparently Gal Gadot was not very happy about Joss Whedon’s remarks. According to MovieWeb she has responded to what he said, claiming, “I understood perfectly. I will never work with him and would never suggest any of my peers work with him in the future.”
Gal Gadot has even claimed that Whedon threatened her career.
She stated, “He kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable and I just took care of it on the spot.”
If this claim is true, Whedon definitely stepped out of line. No actor should be forced to do anything they are uncomfortable with. If there is a discussion about certain scenes or lines, no one should ever have their careers
In an interview with Elle, she was asked about her reaction to what Whedon had reportedly said to her. She revealed, “Oh, I was shaking trees as soon as it happened. And I must say that the heads of Warner Brothers, they took care of it…Going back to the sense of righteousness that I have…you’re dizzy because you can’t believe this was just said to you. And if he says it to me, then obviously he says it to other people. I just did what I felt like I had to do. And it was to tell people that it’s not okay.”
How Has Joss Whedon Responded To What The Actors Of Justice League Have Said?
Director Joss Whedon himself has spoken out about what the actors of Justice League have said about him. According to another MovieWeb article, after several Justice League actors made statements against Whedon, the director responded. Called out for supposedly threatening to “kill Gadot’s career”, Whedon denied doing this.
He stated, “I don’t threaten people, who does that?” He also stated it was a miscommunication, saying, “English is not her first language, and I tend to be annoyingly flowery in my speech.” When Gadot was asked she stated, “I understood perfectly.”
When Gadot wanted a certain scene taken out of the movie, Whedon claims that he “jokingly made a comment” to the actress about it. Whedon says he told Gadot “she would have to tie him to a railway track and do it over his dead body”. Apparently the comment was reported “as saying something about it being her dead body”.
Joss Whedon had nearly two years to get his story straight. He’s likely spent tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars on PR, crisis management, and coaching. And his response to the allegations is: “They all misunderstood and/or are out to get me—also my mom is sexy” ??? — Ray Fisher (@ray8fisher) January 18, 2022
Whedon has also responded to Ray Fisher’s claims about his “gross, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable behavior” during filming. The Avengers director apparently said of Ray Fisher, who plays Cyborg, “We’re talking about a malevolent force. We’re talking about a bad actor in both senses.”
