Traditionally, studios release a big blockbuster in the summer to take advantage of a time when viewers have time off. Netflix will do the same on August 11 with Heart of Stonea feature film that will star Gal Gadot known for her roles in Wonder Woman, and also in Red Notice. Here are 3 good reasons to wait for this film that could make James Bond old fashioned.
What is the story of Heart of Stone?
In this thriller, we will follow the story of Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) who operates as an intelligence agent in the service of an international organization that protects a precious secret. As often in this kind of production, the stakes are enormous and if she fails in her mission, the survival of the world is threatened.
As we can see on the first images available, we are sold epic action scenes, effective teammates, which would be reminiscent of Mission Impossible. A bit like in James Bond, Rachel Stone should also travel a lot, and we are already talking about visits to Europe and Iceland.
A promising cast
Besides Gal Gadot, we will find Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of grey) and Alia Bhatt (Student of the Year). Finally, the distribution is completed by figures a little less known but that we will have the opportunity to discover: Jing Lusi (Crazy Rich Asians), Paul Ready (The Last Hangman), Matthias Schweighofer (Valkyrie), and Sophie Okonedo (Death on the Nile).
Heart of Stone: a new franchise for Netflix?
We know that Netflix is always eager to create profitable sagas, which it can then decline into series or spin-off films and which can even be monetized via derivative products.
Nothing is guaranteed, but it is not impossible that the film Heart of Stone works. The streaming platform could therefore create a successful franchise that would approach the mythical Mission Impossible and James Bond.
The ambition is there in any case, and Gal Gadot is selling a feature film “extremely epic as part of the promotion. Success is not guaranteed, however, and it happens that certain Netflix blockbusters are very quickly forgotten. We are just thinking of Red Notice which however starred the trio Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. Or even very dispensable The Cloverfield Paradox.
