The great and the good of Hollywood have descended on Cannes this week for the annual, star-studded Film Festival – and understandably, they’ve pulled out all the stops with their red carpet lewks. Our faves so far? Ashley Graham channeling her inner princess in a larger-than-life Dolce & Gabbana ruffle gown, Elle Fanning in an unusually daring Paco Rabanne dress (feat. some fab nipple pasties), and, of course, Natalie Portman’s insanely chic vintage Dior look that was *very* Black Swan.
Those are some seriously tough acts to follow, we must say – but not for the eternally chic Scarlett Johansson. The actress brought her A-game as she made a very rare red carpet appearance – her first in months – at the Festival, appearing alongside husband Colin Jost for the premiere of her upcoming film, Asteroid City.
While many other stars went big on naked dressing (not that we’re complaining!), we knew we could rely on Scarlett to bring a touch of grown-up glamour to the event. Though, admittedly, even she couldn’t help but make a nod to the visible lingerie trend that has dominated of late.
Quite frankly, we’re obsessed with Scarlett’s look. Styled by celebrity super-stylist Kate Young, she’s wearing a custom-made Prada creation that combines a sleek pink column dress with a contrasting, peekaboo white embroidered bra. Can we take a moment to appreciate her *stunning* earring situation too? Here’s a close up that we recommend saving to camera roll immediately:
It’s the perfect elegant twist on the ‘underwear as outwear’ trend that has been worn by everyone from Irina Shayk to Ashley Graham recently – and spotted on countless runways, too.
In fact, the subtle peekaboo bra look has proven *very* popular at Cannes this year. Earlier this week, Sydney Sweeney stunned in a similar, silky design by Miu Miu while model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley attended the same event as Scarlett in a white Fendi dress that featured a contrasting embellished bra detail.
If this isn’t a sign that we should be poking our bras out of every possible outfit, then we don’t know what is.
