Dogstar — ft. Keanu Reeves on Bass — Playing the Roxy 7/18; “Everything Turns Around” Debuts 7/19

This past May saw the reunion of Dogstar, a three-piece Los Angeles band comprised of vocalist/guitarist Bret Domrose, drummer/percussionist Robert Mailhouse and bassist Keanu Reeves.

Yes, that Keanu Reeves.

The trio popped up as special guests at BottleRock Napa Valley, playing their first public performance in more than 20 years. It was at this show that Dogstar introduced its new era with a live debut of a song called “Everything Turns Around”:

The studio recording of the song will have its premiere on July 19, hours after Dogstar plays a special intimate concert at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood.

Said Dogstar of the Roxy gig:

“We are so excited to be playing the iconic Roxy. This brilliant music venue has been a staple in our lives since we were young. It’s such an honor to return to this famous stage where so many legendary bands have performed and continue to do so.”

Beyond the novelty factor of seeing Keanu Reeves, one of the most beloved actors of the past three-plus decades, assuming rock star poses on the stage alongside his band mates, Dogstar’s return is big news for fans of the group’s earlier releases, which included one EP and two studio albums.

The most recent to this point, 2000’s Happy Ending, featured a cover of “Superstar,” the Delaney & Bonnie track that was later covered by many acts, most notably the Carpenters and Luther Vandross:

A news releases hints that “fans of the band can expect more exciting announcements to come soon,” so stay tuned for more from Dogstar.
