Gal Gadot

This ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Actor Almost Played Ken in the ‘Barbie’ Movie

While Ryan Gosling plays the main Ken doll in the Barbie movie, multiple versions of the fashionable hunk also exist in the same universe, played by Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Scott Evans and more. But, what if we told you that there were even more actors who almost portrayed Ken in the film, including a certain Schitt’s Creek star?

While sitting down with Vanity FairBarbie casting director Allison Jones revealed there were a few other candidates who nearly played Ken but had to turn down the opportunity. Jones candidly shared that Schitt’s Creek alum Dan Levy was offered one of the Ken parts in the Barbie movie, alongside Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang and Dear Evan Hansen actor Ben Platt.

“They were, I’m not kidding,” Jones told the outlet, before adding that they were “really bummed they couldn’t do it.”

However, Ken wasn’t the only role that had a list of other contenders. Back in May, Margot Robbie (who plays Stereotypical Barbie) revealed to Vogue that actress Gal Gadot was the first actress considered for the titular role. And if that weren’t enough, Robbie also shared that she and the film’s director Greta Gerwig wanted the Wonder Woman 1984 star to play the role initially.

“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy,” Robbie shared with the publication. The actress continued, “Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

There also was another actress considered to play Barbie: Amy Schumer. However, according to Buzzfeed News, the comedian had to drop out of the project due to “scheduling conflicts.” And in the end, the role went to Robbie.

Dan Levy playing Ken in the Barbie movie? Maybe there’s still hope for him in a sequel?!
