Anne Hathaway Quickly Ended Her Relationship With An Ex After He Was Implicated In A Money Laundering Arrest
Anne Hathaway pulled away from her ex after he got into serious legal trouble.

Anne Hathaway has been in the headlines long enough to have seen all aspects of her life receive coverage. She’s made headlines for ruffling fan feathers, having alleged feuds on set with her co-stars, and even her love life has been the focal point of media coverage.
Years ago, shortly after becoming a household name with The Princess Diaries, the actress was in a relationship straight out of a fairy tale. Soon enough, however, disturbing allegations came to light, a prison sentence was delivered, and the once-fiery relationship was fractured.
This is a partnership that many have forgotten, and it’s one of the most interesting pairings in recent memory, given its fallout.
Anne Hathaway Previously Dated Raffaello Follieri
It seems like a lifetime ago now, but during the 2000s, Anne Hathaway was still fighting her way to the top in Hollywood. She was fresh off some successful films, and as she continued her ascent, she struck up a romance with Rafaello Follieri.
Follieri was not a major Hollywood player. Rather, he was a property developer, who had a seemingly endless supply of money and charm.
It’s been reported that he and Hathaway were living a lavish lifestyle together. Sure, there were ups and downs, but it’s easier to make peace while charting private jets, and staying in the most luxurious hotels on the planet.
Said Follieri of their romance, “‘I was 25 years old when we met [in 2004]. We had a lot of happy, happy times. I thought nothing was the limit for me. I remember one evening when Annie (his name for Hathaway) was filming in another country, I was in the apartment [on the 47th floor of the Olympic Tower with views of Central Park] looking out of this amazing window and feeling I could do anything I wanted.”
Eventually, however, Follieri was in legal trouble, and Hathaway didn’t stick around.
Follieri Was Arrested For Fraud, And Hathaway Quickly Split
In 2008, Follieri was arrested for fraud. According to the man himself, Hathaway didn’t exactly stand by his side.
“That night Annie phoned me from Los Angeles where she was doing Press [for the movie Get Smart],’ he says. ‘We were on the phone for ten minutes talking about when she might come home.
‘If I remember, Annie’s last words were “I love you for ever” and we ended the call. That was 2am on June 24, 2008. At 6am I was arrested. I never spoke to Annie again,” he said.
For the unfamiliar, that luxurious lifestyle that he was living and enjoying with Hathaway wasn’t exactly legal.
“The Italian property developer was imprisoned for four years after pleading guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. In short, the convicted conman was allegedly using other people’s money to fund his swanky lifestyle and to buy presents for Hathaway,” Grazia reports.
These were some serious charges, and Hathaway, who had a career to look forward to, opted to distance herself from Follieri. Despite her decision, he holds no resentment towards her. At least that’s what he told DailyMail.
“Never, never, never. I think she made a business decision. She decided saving her career was most important. I am not bitter. You can look in my eyes. I don’t have anger but I’ve been hurt.”
To his credit, he at least acknowledged the fact that it was likely a business move on her part, and that he understands.
Since this massive debacle, the pair have moved on.
They’ve Both Moved On And Are Now Happy With Other People
These days, Anne Hathaway is married to Adam Shulman.
“We have house parties and dinner parties and just hang out. I’m so delighted by [Adam]. He’s all the things you want a partner to be. I so find joy in his presence,” Hathaway said their relationship.
Seems like a stark contrast to the swanky lifestyle she enjoyed with her ex.
According to The Family Nation, Forielli has since gotten married to someone who stood by his side when all of his legal woes came to light.
“Konstantina is the New York acquaintance of Follieri, who has been his friend for many years, says the man. In an interview with Radar Online, Raffaello revealed that the woman stayed in touch with him when no other came to check on him. It was a difficult period for the man, and he appreciated Koumouri’s efforts. After he served around four and half years behind the bar, he got out and contacted the lady. They eventually fell in love following their initial meetings,” the site wrote.
It’s great that all parties have moved on, but this is a bit of Hollywood dating history that does not get talked about nearly enough.
