“Utah, get me two!” Sure, Angelo’s (Gary Busey) appetite for those hot, delicious meatball sandwiches allowed the Ex-Presidents to get away during their first encounter. But the quote is just so apropos as the hit movie Point Break (1991) is set to receive the 4K UHD and Blu-ray treatment from the Shout! Factory. So, why is it that fans of the Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze classic might want two copies? Well, Best Buy is also offering a special-edition SteelBook with an exclusive cover. Check out both the Best Buy artwork and the Shout! Factory 4K UHD/Blu-ray cover below:
Both versions of Point Break’s much-deserved upgrade will be available on Tuesday, December 5, so it will be available just in time for Christmas and Hanukkah. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, there aren’t any details as to what special features will accompany either the 4K UHD/Blu-ray and the Best Buy SteelBook. However, the SteelBook features an exclusive slip with some beautiful artwork that shows off Bodhi’s (Swayze) famed Ronald Reagan Ex-President’s mask, while he torches the getaway car — with Johnny Utah (Reeves) in hot pursuit.
And if you order the 4K UHD/Blu-ray off Shout! Factory’s official website, customers will receive an exclusive, rolled poster measuring 18″ X 24″ that features Point Break’s artwork from the original movie poster. However, there’s not any mention of the new sets including a digital code/copy.
Rock & Roll! Point Break Receives Upgrades
There’s a magnetism shared by Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze as their two characters find themselves at odds, even though they’ve begun forging a friendship and bromance — way before the term had been coined. Back in 1991, while promoting Point Break on international television, Reeves and Swayze talked about the project. Swayze, in particular, seemed mesmerized by the beauty and elegance of skydiving. Swayze said (via YouTube):
“They were scared about us jumping out of airplanes, [but] they shouldn’t have been. Skydiving has become one of the safest sports around. Once I saw skydiving as ballet in the air, or as gymnastics, it all came pretty easy to me. Surfing was like pulling teeth, though. It was not easy to master.”
In that 32-year-old interview, Swayze and Reeves’ rapport off-screen seemed to match the bond they shared early on in the film before their characters Bodhi and Johnny Utah were forced to pick sides against one another. In fact, Swayze joked that he’d rather have played an entirely different character than Bodhi. Swayze said as Reeves couldn’t help but smile:
“I wanted to play his [Utah’s] girlfriend [he and Reeves laugh]. No, um, the only character I wanted to play was Bodhi.”
Fans can preorder the exclusive SteelBook for $33.99 on Best Buy’s official website now. For the time being, the regular version of the 4K UHD/Blu-ray isn’t available, even for preorder, except through the Shout! Factory’s website. And it will cost customers $35.99 — marked down from $39.99.
At the time of this writing, there are only 314 copies of the 4K UHD/Blu-ray available on Shout! Factory’s site. Look for the ultimate, 50-Year-Storm rush when Point Break drops on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and via the exclusive Best Buy SteelBook on Tuesday, December 5.
